What does learning English in the USA mean to you? Our school lets you decide. You can emphasize study and academics - if that's what's right for you. Or you can design one or two activity tracks into your time at the school.
Activity tracks are more than just "field trips." They're instructional activities organized weekly for the Intensive Summer English Program. They help you practice your English in real life and also extend your understanding of the American culture.
You can learn about American culture through film. Activities in this track use films to let you practice advanced listening, enrich your vocabulary, discover idioms, and discuss attitudes, lifestyles, values, and themes common to the U.S. You'll have the chance to watch movies on campus at the University's Media Center, and in town at some of the nation's coolest leading-edge cinemas.
You can learn about American culture through sport. Americans love sports. Sports play an important role in creating community in the US. People from all walks of life find common ground in rooting for their favorite team. Sports both reflect and shape cultural ideas, so by observing sporting events, you can learn much about the American culture. You'll attend both professional and amateur events, exploring themes and simply having fun!
Because our school is a short Metro ride from the center of Washington, DC, you'll also have the chance to learn about American culture through the famous museums and cultural attractions in the city. These include the world-renowned Smithsonian museums (19 museums, 9 research centers, and the National Zoo), exciting theaters, well-respected art galleries, live concerts, and, of course, the historical sites that make the nation's capitol a favorite of tourists all over the world.
We want you to make friends and enjoy your time here at the English Language school in Maryland. All activities are led by friendly staff who are well-qualified to help you make the most of your English learning experience in the USA.
