The Summer session of Intensive English is offered from late June to the early August and is six weeks long. In this program, you learn speaking skills, listening skills, grammar, vocabulary, reading and writing.
The core Summer Intensive English program provides 120 hours of language English instruction combined with specialized instruction in one elective area.
Classes average less than 12 students and the atmosphere is friendly. You'll have many chances to speak, ask questions, and get expert feedback from a helpful instructor. Your classmates will come from all parts of the world, so you'll experience different cultures and countries and make friends for life.
All classes emphasize spoken English. You'll learn grammar in context, by using it in speaking and writing. You'll practice your grammar by doing exercises and written essays at home as well as using what you learn in conversations and discussions in class.
Summer Intensive English program classes are offered in beginning, intermediate, and advanced levels. They meet from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Later afternoons and Fridays are used for electives and activities. You can design this core program so that your Fridays are free for local sightseeing or 3-day weekend adventures.
Before and after class you can sharpen your skills in our state-of-the-art language lab, then meet for social activities. These might include conversation groups, movie nights, a baseball game, or dinner on the Potomac River or at Baltimore's Inner Harbor.
You can also add one or two electives to the core program, allowing you to design up to 168 hours of summer instruction.
